Falling Uphill by Kelly Sweetwood - E-book Giveaway!

I’m dipping my big toe into the deep end of the e-book pool with a chick lit novel (with a little bit of mystery thrown in) called Falling Uphill, written under the pen name Kelly Sweetwood. And I’m giving away three free copies!

Here’s the scoop on the book:

“Ruth Fenton is dead, but what does that have to do with me?”

That’s what Candace Grey, 29, wants to know after receiving a puzzling phone message from San Francisco. A bright, but slightly absent-minded anthropology teacher at a small Michigan college, Candace is all set to leave for Los Angeles to conduct research on 1960s TV star Pamela Parrish—America’s Sitcom Sweetheart—for her Master’s thesis on television and female gender roles. But after discovering that Ruth Fenton is a long lost relative, she’s first off to San Francisco for her memorial service where she meets a crazy(?) old lady who claims Pamela Parrish didn’t commit suicide like everybody says—she was murdered.

Now Candace has to get to the bottom of it, all while fighting the nagging feeling that her long-time professor boyfriend back home is getting a little too close to one of his students, and at the same time wondering if new-found friend Brandon, a newspaper reporter and budding painter who lives on a hidden stairway street in the hills of San Francisco, is really the guy for her.

It’s a funny, but moving, uphill climb for Candace who finds that things are rarely what they seem in the ups and downs of love or in discovering a surprising secret about her not-so-perfect mother, or unearthing the truth behind the death of America’s Sitcom Sweetheart.

And here’s the scoop on the giveaway:

Just write a comment below about your favorite sitcom star—past and/or present— before midnight, Saturday, January 7, Pacific Time. We’ll draw three random winners. Falling Uphill is available on either the Kindle or Nook platforms—winners can take their choice. And don’t forget to include your email address in your comment so we can contact you if your name is drawn.

As for me, my favorite sitcom star of the past is Lucille Ball as Lucy Ricardo on I Love Lucy. And currently I’m madly in love with Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory.

Let us know your favorites and you may win a free copy of Falling Uphill!

  1. Heathcliff Huxtable! I just started introducing The Cosby Show to my kids via Netflix and the Cosby Show is just as fantastic as the first time I watched it as *ahem* an infant of course. Really--there is so much marital humor between Cliff and Claire that was lost to me when I was younger but that I love watching now. Such a great show--still!

Congratulations on the new release! May you sell a gazillion copies!!

  2. Congrats, Wendy. Lots of success to you. I LOVED both Midori by Moonlight and Love in Translation.

As for my favorite sitcoms, I think I'd have to say Friends, The Office, Pushing Up Daisies and the New Girl. I like quirky humor.

  3. Does anyone else love Peg Bundy from "Married With Children"? That woman is hilarious! I also love all three of the women from "Friends"- I don't think that I could pick a favourite out of the three.

I would love to win this one! jonitathebookchick(at)gmail(dot)com

  5. Congratulations on the new book! It sounds intriguing!

There are so many amazing sitcom actors. As a teenager in the 80s, Heathcliff and Claire Huxtable are definitely among my favorites, as is Lucille Ball, but I'd have to go all the way back to THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW. Barney Fife was one of the best characters ever written and Don Knotts was brilliant portraying him. When Barney sang to Juanita on the telephone, those wild eyes and the way he'd brush his hair forward when he got mad. Priceless!

Good luck with FALLING UPHILL. :)

  7. I would have to say that my favorite sitcom person would be Mike Seaver off of growing pains.
He made he show funny with all the things he got himself into.

  8. Thanks for everyone's comments! So many good sitcom suggestions here. Speaking of Seinfeld, I think George Costanza is one of my favorite "love to hate" characters -- how he ever got a date is beyond me. Yes, Barney Fife, Cliff Huxtable, Peg Bundy, Jack Tripper -- these are classics. And what about Diane Chambers of "Cheers?"

  9. Ah, thanks! You've given me a reason to remember how much I loved Mary Richards as played by Mary Tyler Moore . . . so spunky, and unlike Mr. Grant, I like spunky!!

  10. I don't know if I could limit it to just one, I too love Lucy, and Mary Tyler Moore, and I loved Diane in Cheers. And Peg Bundy has always been a favorite too. And now I am into the whole bunch on Modern Family!!!
All the best with the book and I would love to win one.

  11. That is a tough choice. I love the Big Bang Theory. Very funny show. I would have to say that my favorite would have to be the cast of Friends. I love that show still and watch all the time. I would say that Chandler and Monica would be my top favs. You are a new author for me and would love to win and read your book. Thanks for the chance to win. Great cover for this book.

  12. My favorite charactor from the past is Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor from Home Improvement. He reminded me so much of my dad. I don't know how many times that I had to bandage my dad's wounds after an accident in the garage or workshop.

My favorite current charactor is Amy from Big Bang Theory.

    Congrats on your release!

  13. I loved Lucy too. Lucille Ball was the best.

Since I no longer watch sitcoms, except reruns of old ones on occasion, my second favorite--really, Lucy is now in 2nd place because of this lady--was Clair Huxtable. She was who I wanted to be when I grew up. I'm almost 50 and I still want to be her...when I grow up.

  14. Good luck on your ebook - and I'd say my favorite sitcom character is Phil Dunphee (sp?) from Modern Family. He's hilarious and it's the one show my whole fan watches together.

  16. I love the characters on "How I Met Your Mother." The show would be missing something if any one of them were not there.
I'm also an Uncle Jesse fan ("Full House"). :)

  17. My favorite sitcom star??? Why, it's Mr. Ed, of course! A horse is a horse, of course, of course, and no one can talk to a horse of course that is unless the horse of course is the famous Mr. Ed

  18. My current favorite is Jess on New Girl! (Zooey Deschanel). The sitcom is fresh and fun and all the characters are well fleshed out, but I love how she challenges what it is to be a sexy lead female character. None of the stereotypes, she's just adorable!
