I just spent the week at the Romance Writers of America conference in Anaheim.
Basically, this is like my own, personal fannish extravaganza. I've been reading romance novels since I was a kid, and they remain my favorite kind of books, bar none. And this is the conference where all of my favorite authors are just... walking around! Like regular people!
I remember the first one I ever went to, in New York City in 2003. I stood in the huge Literacy Signing with a friend and we just stared. I recognized so many names. Huge idols like Nora Roberts were in the same room. It was a thrill. It still is.
But just as exciting as seeing long-beloved authors is discovering new ones. In Atlanta in 2006, I happened upon a brand new historical author at the Grand Central (I think it was still Warner Books then) signing. She didn't have a book to sign. She had a chapter excerpt and I helped myself to one and started reading right then and there.
I was BLOWN AWAY! I mean that very seriously.
The noisy room fell away and I couldn't tear through the pages fast enough. I believe I got slightly overheated and may have had to fan myself with the bound chapter. (Hey, she writes hot!) And then, of course, I wanted more. I WANTED THE ENTIRE BOOK IMMEDIATELY. But it wasn't going to be out for months. I whiled away the time raving about this upcoming book to anyone who would listen, and many who probably would have preferred not to. But I couldn't stop! I'd read only a few pages of The Raven Prince but it was more than enough.
And when November came, I bought the book on its very first day and started a long and happy love affair with all things Elizabeth Hoyt.
Which, today, I'd love to share with you. I have signed copies of four of Elizabeth's books (including that very first one I fell in love with way back when!) and all you have to do to win one of them is leave a comment below. I'll pick winners later this week.
And if you don't win?
Well.
I can't tell you what to do, of course, or what books you should be reading. But if I were you, I'd start looking around over here. Just to see if anything piques your interest...
Megan Crane is the author of twenty-five novels if you count the current disaster-in-progress, which she isn't sure you should. She is an unabashed fangirl of fantastic romances and their wildly talented authors. www.megancrane.com
The other person in this photo is the fabulous Elizabeth Hoyt herself. You really should read her. www.elizabethhoyt.com
Hi Megan,
ReplyDeleteI happen to be an Elizabeth Hoyt AND a Megan Crane/Caitlin Crews fangirl, so how exciting to have BOTH of you in one post. Here's crossing my fingers for a win on the signed copy. :)
Congratulations, you're a winner! Email me at megan AT megancrane DOT com with your mailing address!
DeleteHi Megan,
ReplyDeleteI am happy to be a Megan Crane fangirl. I have not read Elizabeth Hoyt, but now will. Thanks for letting us know how great she is.

Love this, Megan!! I have fangirl tendencies, as well. Have you ever read PARADISE by Judith McNaught? My first experience with romance and it was GOOD!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great give-away!! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I so agree with you about Ms. Hoyt!!! I received her "Wicked Intentions" and the second one, in the series, for Christmas from a friend and fell in love with her. Unfortunately, I finished "W.I." and started the second one and then I had to move and all my books are in storage. I can't wait to get back to the series.:)
ReplyDeleteAh... Thanks for the sharing, Megan! I've been a fan of Ms. Hoyt's since a friend shared the Prince trilogy with me a few years ago--all the buzz is well-deserved!

Hi I love Historical Novels too and I love Elizabeth Hoyt also the first one I read was "Wicked Intentions' and I was blown away!"Scandalous Desires" is the best .I couldn't stop reading that one. I'll be a fan of her books for along time to come. Please tell her that.
DeleteMs. Hoyt was a recent discovery and I was hooked from the first line :) I've already read the Four Soldiers series and I'm in the middle of the Maiden Lane series right now. (I read mostly audiobooks due to my long commute, but unfortunately the "Prince" series is not available on Audible yet-- booo!)
ReplyDeleteI love Elizabeth Hoyt and all romance books! I'm also an aspiring romance author :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so spot-on about Elizabeth!! The Raven Prince was the first book I had ever read..and was irrevocably hooked (and addicted) within a few pages!! I devoured that book in record time, then went after the series it was a part of. I have since re-read it too many times to count! Elizabeth's work is nothing short of magnificent, I look forward to each new book she puts out. I thank you, so very much, for bringing more attention to her!!

ReplyDeleteElizabeth hoyt is a master storyteller, the way she writes just sucks you into this world of adventure and passion. Her stories have made me cry like a baby, laugh hysterically and fling the book to the ground with anger.
ReplyDeleteShe makes you FEEL the story from beginning to end and that is why she is my number one. Always!

Since I read upwards of 100 books a year and have read well over thousands of different authors it is more likely than not that I have read Hoyt's work, although I am not 100% certain. This would be an awesome way to be introduced to new books though ;-) greeneyesredhair@gmail.com

Earlier this year I discovered Elizabeth Hoyt's book. I remember one of my favorite authors recommended The Leopard Prince. Since it was part of a series I decided to start with the Raven Prince and fell in love with it. And I defintely agree with you that it only took a few pages to be hooked.
