Oh You And Your Goals...
I'm doing a lot more writing this year, more than I've done in one year before. I've set a goal for 4 novellas, 5 short stories (in a new genre for a new publisher) and 3 short novels (same genre - different series, for another publisher). I know - you think that's crazy - because I too, think it's crazy. But I've already finished one novella and one short story and am one third done with one of the short novels. So maybe it's good to be crazy.
What's going on? Well, my kids are older. One of them now drives. They don't need me to do as much for them like constantly make them macaroni and cheese or heat up pizza rolls. In fact, sometimes they'd prefer if I didn't even talk to them - so...um...yay...
Another motivation - my daughter goes to college in two and a half years. If I can pull this off, and make more money, then this is my plan until my son gets out of college in 2022. Sure, I won't have a life, but the very thought of the kids going to college and all that it costs scares me stupid.
I know, it's crazy...possibly even insane. But since I've gone indie, I haven't really set a plan in motion like this. I was feeling like a slacker (I am) and like I was floating with no direction (yup) and my fans were getting itchy for more stuff (I hate disappointing anyone).
So - this is my year. My year to really knock it out of the park content wise. And I'm doing just fine so far (you can't see this, but I'm knocking on wood right now). I'll keep you updated on how it goes or if I don't survive it I'll make sure my husband posts something really nice on facebook. In fact, maybe I should write that for him, just to be safe.
Viva 2014! The year Leslie gets stuff done!

Good luck with all your projects, Leslie. Sounds like you're off to a great start!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sara. I'm hoping it's all about momentum!
DeleteLeslie, Even if you do half of what you're aiming for, I'll be envious. I love the inventiveness of your series and must investigate more...good luck on the plans!
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna give it a shot Sheila. We'll see by this time next year if I'm still living...

ReplyDeleteWait. You've done that much in the first 6 weeks of the year?? You just lost your slacker card, young lady. I'll be cheering you on from the sidelines where only be writing 2 books and a novella. Well, 2 1/2 books and a novella. Dang it, I wasn't feeling stressed until I just typed that out. LOL!
ReplyDeleteYes, Terri, my bestselling friend, but you're just starting out. I've been doing this for a while - so I have no excuse.
DeleteThanks Hellie! You give me hope...and vodka...I can do anything with hope and vodka.
ReplyDeleteSounds very ambitious -- I'm looking forward to reading everything!
ReplyDeleteYou're rocking this year already, Leslie, so I know that you can do it. I'll just be happy if I can get my latest book out and published. It's taking me forever!
