Saturday Book Give Away! The Good Daughter by Jane Porter

by Maggie Marr

We have a winner! Sheena, the 11th commenter below has won an autographed copy of Jane Porter's upcoming book The Good Daughter and a $5 Starbucks card!

I am so very excited that this week for the GBC book give away we have a $5 Starbucks card and a signed copy of book 2 in Jane Porter's very popular Brennan Sister series: The Good Daughter. Coffee and a Jane Porter book? Sounds like the perfect Saturday morning to me!

The Good Daughter

Love was given to all, except herself...
Kit Brennan has always been the most grounded of her sisters. A Catholic school English teacher for seventeen years and a constant giver, her decisions have been sound—just not very satisfying. Her fortieth birthday is right around the corner, causing Kit to consider some wilder notions, like skipping right past the love and marriage to raising a child all by herself...

A girls' weekend away is just the reprieve Kit needs from school, Mr. Wrongs, and life-changing decisions. It's there that she meets a man who's dangerous; a man who challenges who she thought she was, or rather should be. Kit wants to indulge herself this once, but with one of her students in crisis and the weight of her family's burdens weighing heavy on her heart, Kit isn't sure if now is the time to let her own desires take flight...

Please leave a comment (with your email addy) below about where you'd like to go for your perfect girls weekend and on Sunday, January 27th Random.org will select one very lucky winner of The Good Daughter!

Maggie Marr is the author of the Hollywood Girls Club Series, Can't Buy Me Love, and Courting Trouble. She is currently at work on Hollywood Hit, the next book in the HGC Series. She lives in LA with her family.

  2. This perfect girls weekend would not thrill a lot of people but mine would involve a road trip with my mom to Decorah, Iowa to visit the Seed Savers Exchange farm. I love growing unusual, heirloom veggies in my garden and I think a trip to that farm would be a real feast for the eyes.

  4. Perfect girls weekend would take place where my husband and I honeymooned! Chattanooga TN at a place called the Stone Fort Inn.

It's beautiful! It was built during the Civil War...I think and has been modernized with luxurious bathrooms and the occasional hot tub on the balcony. Four poster beds, working fireplaces, sitting area complete with 2 wing backed chairs and coffee table are in all rooms! Any furniture in it is either antique or made to look antique! Decorations, wallpaper all add to the ambiance of the room!

The main level has a billiard room, piano room, library, and restaurant. The restaurant is set up like an old timey place. Gourmet food is wonderful and cookies everywhere you look in the hallway for you to eat! The staff is amazing!

Things to do? It's Chattanooga....great hippie stores great people for real!

Then I would fly to the U.K. for a very short visits with all my girlfriends there. I think I would probably cheat and spend more than one day! I miss all of them so much!!!

I have a pile of books to give to each of them!

  6. Oops. Realized I didn't read the instructions close enough.

The perfect girls weekend would involve staying at a luxury spa where we'd indulge in tranquility massages, facials, mani/pedis and yoga, to be followed by a relaxing meal. Finally, we'd cap off the evening with some wine and chocolate while we kick back with a fun chick flick and juicy conversation!

Anyway, as I said earlier, I'm a big fan of Jane Porter's women's fiction stories, and I can't wait to read The Good Daughter when it comes out!

  8. Oh what fun to fantasize ... believe it or not, I've never done a girls weekend. And since at the moment I'm desperate for writing time, I think my perfect girls weekend would be to go to a lovely B&B with my critique partners, somewhere by the beach so we can take walks, then back to the comfy chairs by the fireplace to write and brainstorm and read.

I'm excited to finally meet Jane in person at the WRW retreat in April!

  10. Not sure this qualifies, but I've two long-time girlfriends from a job long ago. Our lives and families don't allow a full weekend devoted to girls, so we go to a nearby glitzy hotel and treat ourselves to a fabulous breakfast and hours of talk and coffee. The atmosphere is one of vacation, so we delude ourselves into thinking we're away from it all...and it works in some strange way. It's always a special time that ends with tight hugs.
